About Me

My photo
My name is Natalie and I love anything to do with card/paper. I have been a papercrafter for many years now and I never get bored playing with all the wonderful products available. I've been married to my wonderful husband Nathan for 35years now and we are still very much in love with each other as the first day we met each other. We have 3 wonderful children and 5 gorgeous grandchildren so we have lots to be thankful for. Since joining Stampin' Up! in 2018 I've grown so much in confidence with myself and I even tackle technology, which for me is a huge step to have taken, but I'm getting there slowly.

Craftalong Tuesday - Brilliant wings split panel card

Welcome everyone to another Craftalong Tuesday. Goodness hasn't the weather changed, it's been so cold the last few weeks, hope it warms up soon so we can all start to enjoy sitting in our gardens again! Todays project is a really lovely card fold which I made on a zoom class with my very dear friend Anne Ronsky, I loved making the fold so much I thought I'd make a card using it and share it with you all.

Materials needed:

Basic white thick carstock

1 piece A4 (UKsize) cut at 14.85cm on the longside score on shortside at 10.5cm - cardbase (2 cards 1 sheet)

1 piece approx 2.5cm x 5cm for the sentiment (from cut away section of cardbase)

Basic white cardstock

1 piece 10.1cm x 14.4cm for inside of card layer

1 piece approx 12.5cm x 17cm for die cutting all of the plain butterflies out (there will be spare ready for other cards)

Scrap pieces to die cut detailed butterflies out

Bumble Bee cardstock

1 piece approx 12.5cm x 17cm for die cutting all of the plain butterflies out (there will be spare ready for other cards)

Scrap pieces to die cut detailed butterflies out

Fine Art Floral DSP

2 pieces 3.1cm x 14.4cm for the two front of card panel layers

Bumble Bee classic stampin' pad

Rhinestone basic jewels

Card Instructions:

Cut and score the cardbase. Place in your trimmer, longside at the top and cut off from one end only, 2 pieces that both measure 3.5cm. One of these pieces is going to become the second panel of your card, the other piece you can cut the section for the sentiment out of. Fold and burnish the score line, this small section will become your top or the left side front panel of your card, this all depends on which way you'd like your card to stand.

This is landscape and the section is the top panel.

This is portrait and the section is on the left.

On the panel of the card base one of the dsp pieces can be adhered to the front of it, and the other dsp piece is adhered to one of the panels you cut off.
Now you need to decide which plain butterflies and detailed butterflies you will be using and attaching them together at the body part in their pairs. You can give the wings of the detailed ones a slight curve with the bone folder to make it look more life like.
With the dsp/card panel that is not attached to the card atm you need to lay this flat into place, so that it is laying over the back of the card and then very carefully apply small amounts of glue to the backs of the  butterfly wings,  making sure it's only where the wings will be attaching to both sides of the two panels (you don't want glue all over the butterflies as this will just glue the whole card shut). Once all of the butterflies are glued into place this ensures that the card front is nice and solid, even though the middle section has been cut away.
Stamp the sentiment and place onto the card front using dimensionals wherever it looks right for sitting.
Glue the inside of card white piece into place, attach a few of the rhinestones basic jewels onto the butterflies and that's the card finished.
I loved how it looked really great whether it was a portrait card or a landscape card and the great thing is you can get 2 out of 1 sheet of A4 which I think is brilliant. Hope you enjoyed todays project and you give it a go I think once you've made one you'll definitely want to make lots more using all sorts of different papers and die cuts, so have fun and I will see you next tuesday for another Craftalong Tuesday!
