Hello again, and welcome to another SUO challenge and this time on the SUOC#281 the theme was School days, and I have to be honest I struggled a bit with this one, but I'm quite pleased with what I came up with in the end, when I say end, it was only a coule of days before the post had to go live that I actually managed to get my head around it!.
Anyway the card I've created for you is probably a bit dated, for the time, as schools usually have white boards now, and not chalk boards, or easels infact lol........... but I like it anyway, I think it's quite a cute card for a child who is maybe going to be starting school for the first time, it could even hold a little treat for when they come home after their 1st day...........of many to come!
Please don't forget after you have looked at my blog to hop over and see what all of the other design team have made for you, there are some amazing projects for you to see over on the SUOC#281, maybe you might like to join in with the challenge and share with us we would love to see what you come up with.
Instructions:
1. Take a piece of soft suede cardstock and cut it so that it measure 4 1/8" x A4 length (UK) size and then score on the longside at 5 7/8" this is the card base.
2. On both of the short ends mark in from the edge at 1 7/8" and then you need to cut from the edge up to the mark going in from the sides at 1/2" this will form the legs of the easel, the section in the middle of the legs on one side needs to be cut away.
The other middle section needs to be scored not cut, as this will act as the easel support.
This is what the card looks like when folded.
When finished it fits inside a C6 envelope comfortably.
3. This whole piece needs to now be embossed, I've used the new Timber 3D embossing folder 156406 from the new mini catalogue on p.37.
4. You will notice that when the cardstock is embossed it tends to make the card a bit thinner where it has been pressed down so hard, and so I made myself sections to go within the easel on both sides and one for the support section too. You will need 2 pieces both measuring 4 1/8" x 5 13/16" and these will both be cut in the same way for the legs cutting both of the middle sections out this time, 1 will be adhered to the support flap, which will tuck round and under the easel when standing.
2 pieces for the inside of the easel
2 pieces adhered inside of the easel
1 piece adhered to the support section of the easel
5. With one of the pieces, that were cut away from the leg sections, placed in your trimmer short side at the top of trimmer, score at 1/8", 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" and cut at 5/8", this piece needs to now be carefully folded and adhered together with glue so that it forms a very small oblong cube, which is then adhered to the end of the support section, this acts as a stopper to prevent the card from falling down, but also forms a shelf where the treat could be placed for the childs surprise.
This is how it looks
6. I've taken a black piece of cardstock now 3 7/8" x 3 3/4" and using a waterpainter (I used the fan brush) and some of the white ink I've made a watery wash, you can do this on a clear stamp block, and then I've just brushed it across my cardstock, I even smudged the block with the rest of the watery ink on it, over the cardstock, this just gave a chalky effect on the blackboard. This was then adhered to the front of the easel using black dimensionals.
I then cut myself a piece of basic white cardstock the same size and adhered this onto the inside of the easel to have somewhere to write my message.
7. Using the Banners pick a punch I made myself 2 banners, 1 white for the sentiment to go on ( I used the Happy birthday from the Sweet as a peach stampset only inking up what I needed using Soft suede ink, the 1st was from a retired set called Family Party 149379 and this was inked with the same colour and then I added some of the Shimmery crystals effect, it doesn't really show in the photos but it adds a really nice raised effect). The yellow banner was cut a bit thicker and then they were adhered together and black dimensionals were used to adhere to the blackboard.
Close up of the chalky effect on blackboard
hoping you can see it.
8. All of the numbers etc were die cut from basic white cardstock using the Playful alphabet and adhered flat using glue. The bunting was cut from the Stitched triangles and adhered with black dimensionals.
I really enjoyed making this, loved how it stands so solid and proud, and I hope you give it a go, it's one of those cards that looks very complicated but actually it's really rather simple, but very effective!
Hop on over now and see what everyone else has made for you to see all of the designers are so talented you won't want to miss out on their designs!
