About Me

My photo
My name is Natalie and I love anything to do with card/paper. I have been a papercrafter for many years now and I never get bored playing with all the wonderful products available. I've been married to my wonderful husband Nathan for 35years now and we are still very much in love with each other as the first day we met each other. We have 3 wonderful children and 5 gorgeous grandchildren so we have lots to be thankful for. Since joining Stampin' Up! in 2018 I've grown so much in confidence with myself and I even tackle technology, which for me is a huge step to have taken, but I'm getting there slowly.

Craftalong Tuesday - What's cookin' birthday card

Hi everyone and welcome to yet another Craftalong Tuesday! This week I have rather a cute little card for you all using the delightful new bundle called 'What's Cookin' this is a great bundle to have for those of us that love to bake and the dies that go with it are just gorgeous, look how divine the mixing bowl stamps it's so realistic and the chopping board not only die cuts but embosses at the same time, I think this is going to be used quite alot by myself............

The card I've chosen to do is quite a simple one, using a homemade stencil to create a background, which is really easy to do, so lets get started!

Materials

Basic white thick cardstock
1pc - 21cm x 14.85cm scored in half on the longside at 10.5cm for the cardbase
1pc - 9.6cm x 13.9cm for the background layer
1pc - approx 1.6cm x 8cm for the sentiment
Scrap pieces for stamping and die cutting of the cooking utensils and bowl

Crumb Cake cardstock
1pc - 10.1cm x 14.45cm for the front of card layer
Scrap pieces for the stamping and die cutting of the spoon and chopping board

Silver foil cardstock (this has retired but I had some in my stash still)
Scraps for the die cutting of the utensils

Blending brushes or Sponge daubers - for inking through the stencil

Water painters - for applying the splashes on background

Dimensionals and Linen thread

Scrap piece of cardstock - for the stencil which is larger than the piece for the background

Instructions:

Fold and burnish the card base.

Glue the crumb cake card layer onto the front of the card base.

Die cut all of the utensils on the scrap piece of card that is going to become your template for stenciling through. Gently apply ink through the stencil to form the background of utensils onto the background card layer.

I used a blending brush and crumb cake ink to do mine, you can if you prefer use the sponge daubers instead. I actually stamped the images that I was going to be using for the card first, before I die cut them out, this way you have them ready for using on the card front, without wasting them!

Now using a small clear stamping block apply the ink from the ink pad onto it, and with the largest water painter squeeze some of the water onto the block and mix the ink into a watery consistency loading the end of the brush nib up with it, and then tap the brush with your finger over the background piece of card to get splashes of the ink onto the background. This is a really easy technique to use and gives such a great look to background layers.

Once this layer is dry adhere it to the front of the card base.

Stamp all of the utensils that are required, I only actually needed to stamp the wooden spoon and the bowl as I had the other pieces already done from the stencil piece. Die cut them all out, including the silver ones and the chopping board.

I cut a small slit into my bowl so that I could tuck my spoon into it and then arranged all of the utensils onto the chopping board and tied the thread through the hole, before attaching this to the card front using dimensionals.

The last thing I needed to do was to stamp my sentiment which is from the really cute stampset called 'Sharing sunshine' I just really liked the font that was used for it. I used basic gray ink and then attached to my card front using glue only on each end of it.

Thats the card finished and I really enjoyed creating this one, as I said I think I'm going to be getting lots of use out of this bundle, I found it very therapeutic whilst using it too.
Thanks for popping by my blog and taking a little look I really do appreciate it, until next time take care and keep crafting!
